HOW TO BRIDGE THE GAPS IN THE CURRENT EDUCATION SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN?

Published on December 1, 2022

The structural advancement of a nation hangs on a good education system. For socio-economic and political stability in the state, imparting standard education to youth plays a vital role. We cannot negate the positive impact it has on society by reducing economic issues such as poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, health issues, and inflation. Infrastructure in a society can be made better by educating our generation in a better way.

Improve education for valuable reasons

In certain ways, a good education system can benefit our country.

  • It helps nurture an impressive resilient society.
  • Warrant substantial growth of the country.
  • Let the youth explore new magnitudes.
  • Refine concealed talent, hidden potentials, and secret abilities of youth so they can come forward with the confidence to innovate.
  • Standard education can give a boom to a country’s reputation and Pakistan can emerge as a powerful nation worldwide.
  • It induces a sense of responsibility to perform national duties and aware people struggle for their social, national, and personal rights.

Resolutions to abridge educational gaps

Pakistan’s educational system is facing turmoil due to multiple folds that need to be unfolded and sorted to provide quality education.  Here in this article, we will discuss the issues and how they can be resolved to empower youth bringing into reality the vision of an ideal nation.

I. Begin at the roots

Provide a standard education at the beginning because if the base is strong it is easy to construct a huge structure above. Early education is taken lightly in our country whereas it is important to feed the toddlers bit by bit and introduce them to technological-based education. This is because future workings are based upon technology. Therefore, data analysis and coding must be included in the course from the start. According to research, coding and data analysis is effective in enhancing mathematical skills, polishing the creative aspect of a child, strengthening problem-solving skills, and improving writing skills. A strong base lets them improve their quality of life and enables them to enter professional life with confidence in the future. A child fed right in the beginning can make wonders at an early age.

II. Improve teaching faculty

Good food cannot be cooked without a good cook. Similarly, teachers are the gem polisher, they can either motivate or demotivate the student. So, a good teacher always encourages and motivates his students positively to achieve significant goals in academic and career life. Our country’s youth is in the hands of teachers; they can mold them wisely to become responsible citizens. Teachers are the leaders and students are their followers. Followers will adopt and shadow the instructions of their leader. So, an educationist must possess a decent character to act as a role model for students. He or she must possess the required qualification essential for the designated post. Most importantly a teacher must love his profession, have a passion, and acknowledge the fact that he is training a generation to develop a better future for a country.

However, in our country importance is not given to this job, skilful diamond diggers are ignored and deprived of the task. Most people adopt the teaching profession just because it is an easy mode of earning, ignoring the fact that the fate of the country is in their hands. Government should take action and introduce educational reforms specifically targeting teaching faculty to raise their standards. The system can be improved in the following ways:

  • Teachers must be selected aptly and hired through a methodical investigation not just to fill in the vacancy.
  • Strict screening procedures must be adopted before hiring.
  • Teachers’ examinations and interviews must be conducted to judge their abilities.
  • Even after hiring their performance should be monitored and evaluated by academic heads.

The teacher impacts and helps build your child’s perspective, their training is an unavoidable matter. He must possess essential training in understanding child psychology and handling every student according to their unique behavior. Moreover, teacher training programs must be organized to introduce them to modern ways of teaching practices. Institutes must be careful about class strength and make sure a reasonable number of students are being handled by a single teacher so proper attention can be given to each one. E-learning can be taken as an initiative where a single teacher can access students all around the country through their devices and can cater to their queries individually.

III. Let the student stand out

Despite pressing students within the crowd encouraging them to take part in co-curricular activities. Let them build healthy communities, and groups within the institutes so they get the confidence to lead and show their creative side. Learning to manage things early keeps them organized in the future when they enter their professional life. Book learning is important but experiencing activities outside of the books keeps them active and gathers energy to learn within classrooms. What happens here is that students are ordered to sternly adhere to the syllabus for getting a position in the class. The administration should empower and cheer students for developing purposeful communities. It enhances speaking power, communication skills, and most importantly confidence.

In many cases, parents and teachers are more focused on their children’s grades rather than showing concern with the knowledge grasped. Don’t look upon grades although grades are important but also see what children have learned so far. Can he apply those learnings practically? Or just memorizing to get good grades in exams. A child’s knowledge and comprehension are much more vital to leading a successful professional life.

IV. Freedom should be given to select a subject of choice

Every field of study is important and if students get a chance to learn it by choice they can excel in their field. Here profession and passion meet giving birth to a successful life and thus aiding in the progress of a country. A wide range of subjects should be offered by institutes rather than just sticking to old combinations such as medical sciences, engineering, business, etc. there are more fields for students to explore. Teachers should see the interest of students and discuss it with parents so both can encourage the child to get along with his chosen subject. In Pakistan, parents want their child to either choose a medical or engineering field. Computer sciences are also trending but that is necessary no matter in what field you are. Not all students have the same thinking. Every child has his perspective and state of mind which should be respected. Those who are on the wrong path should be guided by logic. Forcing them could be brutal, children should be molded politely.

V. Arrange knowledgeable seminars and workshops by professionals

Exposure and motivation can be imparted through seminars and workshops conducted in the institutes by professionals. Government should aid institutes to arrange such knowledgeable activities for students’ awareness. It helps to develop skills in the students and clear the vision regarding various professions they can get into. Students get to know the trajectory to follow for achieving their goals in the desired field.

VI. Learn through experimentation

The practical application lacks in our educational system. It emphasizes more on sticking to the syllabus than experimenting to reveal something new. However, innovations are made through experimentation and by clearing concepts which are absent here. Students should be allowed to learn through practice.

VII. Skills essential for professional survival must be taught

Many institutes skip some essential courses, such as for a 3D designer few institutes don’t teach much-needed software that is demanded in the professional career. Such students have to do additional courses after their degree program to get employment. This drawback can be diminished by adding such courses into the curriculum so students don’t need to put extra time and effort into learning such skills afterward.

VIII. The unifying curriculum of private and government institutes

In Pakistan, the educational sector is divided into private and government institutes. The standard of government schools and colleges is not up to mark whereas students in private institutes enjoy learning modern and up-to-date syllabi. A unified system must be adopted so capable students can get admission to reputed universities for higher education. In government schools, subjects such as Science, Maths, and Pakistan Studies are taught in Urdu. Such students couldn’t cope with a system of universities for higher education as almost all subjects are in the English language. It is hard for them to comprehend the terms used. This lowers their confidence and suppresses their abilities. Coordination between private and government institutes must be built and high-standard syllabi must be taught in all institutes preparing students for future challenges.

Conclusion

Education realizes people, their responsibilities as citizens so they work for the prosperity of their country. Government should pay attention to educational reforms and strictly implement them for raising education standards in Pakistan. The adoption of an online education system and using the latest technology in the education sector can strengthen the system. For developing countries, empowering youth through education is necessary for a brighter future.
